My Story

Hi, I’m Claire Elyce LaPointe-McEwan — known as Claire Qute. I grew up in Kingston, ON, Canada with a very loving family — my mom is originally French-Canadian and my dad is Jamaican.

Although I was raised with a lot of love and support, being biracial while simultaneously being a big dreamer in a small town always made me feel very misunderstood.

At the time, I didn’t understand why I felt like a misfit, but now I’m grateful for the opportunity it gave me to look inwards and discover my passions…

I always gravitated to the arts, especially every aspect of filmmaking, acting, and fashion. I have been creating my own films — writing scripts, casting my friends, making shot-lists & shooting schedules, acting, and editing films — since I was 6 years old, always very passionate and serious about the craft of filmmaking.

I did community musical theater from ages 8-10 and began my professional film & TV career when I was 11.

Now I’m living out my dreams, acting in film & TV productions such as “Star Trek: Discovery,” “The Detail” (CTV), “Creeped Out” (Netflix); creating beauty & fashion YouTube videos; and creating my own films as well.

Overall I’m dedicated to bringing biracial representation to screens in all that I do. I believe that what we see on TV, in films, and on social media subconsciously programs our minds to what we believe is “normal.” I hardly ever saw anyone who looked like me or my family in the media when I was growing up, and I want to do my part in changing that for future generations. Although my films aren’t explicitly about race, they do and always will portray multiracial people and families.
